Each year, the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA KC) harnesses the creative genius of Kansas City’s leading design talent. The assignment: transform a blank canvas {dining table and chairs} with unique artistic vision, setting the scene for one of Kansas City’s most eagerly anticipated events of the year. This event, aptly named Dining by Design, got its start in Kansas City over 20 years ago and has since gained popularity with DIFFA chapters nationwide.
For his 22nd year in a row, Kansas City interior designer John Rufenacht, will participate in the event in addition to serving on the Tabletop Committee. Not only will his design be set to impress guests on the evening of April 13th, it has been chosen for an exclusive installation at Halls (on display now). John drew inspiration for his design from the grand scale and edgy traditional print of Kravet’s Teablossom. Among the elements of his brightly-colored vignette will sit eight Klismos chairs from Century Furniture finished in turquoise lacquer; a bold choice to compliment Meta Confetti, a vertically striped velvet with a twist designed by Jonathan Adler for Kravet. Through the support of Kravet, all fabrics were generously donated, and honored to support John in this great cause, it was our pleasure to provide the Klismos dining chairs.
There are several ways to experience the talents displayed at Dining by Design. Tickets to the Gala (April 13, 2013 at 6 p.m.) include valet parking, cocktails, dinner, live entertainment, live auction and an after party for $250 per person. For a twist
on the traditional Gala event, guests can attend Conversations on Dining at noon on the 13th for only $20 per person. This causal afternoon affair includes discussions on food, presentation, nutrition and trends as well as a question and answer session with table designers.
